Summer Teen Adventure Camp

The Summer Adventure Camp offers 12 to 17 year-olds the opportunity to explore their natural environment through a wide variety of adventure activities.

Previous camps have included rock climbing, backpacking, caving, rappelling, kayaking, wind surfing, whitewater rafting, and more. Each camp session is two weeks long and includes extended overnight travel to neighboring wilderness settings. Prices vary depending on session.

Summer Camp registration will begin on Monday, March 24 for residents and Tuesday, March 25 for nonresidents.

Session 1: Canoeing Travel Camp

June 2-June 13 (#23367)

Spend the first week learning all about the fundamentals of canoeing and primitive canoe camping including strokes, water safety, river reading, knots, equipment, whitewater rescue, and primitive camping skills. Depending on river flow, we'll spend the second week paddling and camping on the Rio Chama River in New Mexico or the Mulberry or Buffalo River in Arkansas. Each river is known for its challenging whitewater and beautiful scenery. Fee: $300 Resident; $325 Nonresident



Session 2: Arkansas Travel Camp

June 23-June 29 (#23368)

We're planning for seven days of activities near the Hot Springs area of Arkansas. Adventures include rock climbing at Robbers Cave, caving at Devil's Den State Park, digging for diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park, snorkeling at Daisy State Park, canoeing on the Caddo River, and a visit to an amusement/water park in Hot Springs.  Fee: $350 Resident; $375 Nonresident



Session 3: Colorado Travel Camp

July 7-July 15 (#23369)

This year we're heading to the Durango area in Colorado for nine days of outdoor activities. Adventures include rock climbing at X-Rock, backpacking in the San Juan National Forest, and whitewater kayaking on the Animas River. Fee: $375 Resident; $400 Nonresident



Session 4: Extreme Water Sports

July 21-August 1 (#23370)

If you like staying cool in the hot summer, then this is the session for you. Adventures include whitewater kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, wind surfing, and wake boarding. We'll conclude our adventures with a trip to Padre Island. Fee: $300 Resident; $325 Nonresident



Registration Information:

You must complete the 2008 Summer Registration Form with a $50 non-refundable deposit to secure your reservation. We have limited spaces, which can only be reserved through payment and a completed registration form. Registration will be accepted at: Georgetown Recreation Center - 1003 N. Austin Ave. Georgetown Tennis Center - 400 Serenada Drive Parks & Recreation Admin. - 1101 N. College Street Registration Dates: Monday, March 24, begining 8:00 a.m. - Residents Tuesday, March 25, beginning 8:00 a.m. - Nonresidents Payment: A $50.00 Non-Refundable deposit is required at time of registration. The remaining balance is due in full on the Monday one-week prior to the start of the camp session. If payment is not received in full by this time, your child will be withdrawn from camp and the next child on the waitlist will be called. You will lose your $50 deposit. We accept cash, checks and credit cards (MC, VISA & Discover).
