December: Orienteering 101: Find Your Way
Learn about some of the basics of orienteering at Lake Georgetown. Topics covered will include basic map reading, compass use, and route planning. You will need to bring a sack lunch, 2 quart size water bottles, sunblock, and a day pack.
$10 R / $15 NR Ages 12 & up
Saturday, December 6, 2008 Depart 10:00 a.m. and return @ 2:00 p.m.
January: Whirlpool Cave Teen Service Day
Join us as we celebrate MLK day with a day of community service and fun at Whirlpool Cave in Austin. Participants will receive 3 hours of community service and get the opportunity to tour an undeveloped cave. You will need to bring work clothes, water bottle, and a sack lunch for the event. Old long pants and t-shirts are strongly recommended for the caving tour.
Free Event but limited to the first 13 participants (ages 12-17) to pre-register.
Saturday, January 17, 2009 Depart 8:00 a.m. and return 5:00 p.m.
February: Looking for the Lost Pines
Come backpacking with us in the scenic Lost Pines of Bastrop State Park. Topics covered will include fitting & packing a backpack, low impact camping, water purification, and outdoor cooking. We will provide backpacks, camping gear, and meals while camping.
$45 R / $50 NR Ages 12 & up
February 14-15, 2009 Depart Saturday, February 14 at 8:00 a.m. Return Sunday, February 15 @ 3:00 p.m. Mandatory Packing Night: Fri., Feb 13, 7 p.m. until finished at the Parks and Rec Admin BLDG
